Pre-K Handbook
Absences
Please call the office if your child is absent (423) 434-5275. A written excuse is also required when your child returns to school.
Absences are excused only in case of:
· Child is ill.
· Illness or death in the family
· Religious holiday
Attendance is Important!
· Students may be dropped from the roll after 20 days of absences.
· Students may be considered for removal after an excessive number of unexcused tardies (10 per semester).
Arrivals/Dismissals
Arrivals- Students are not allowed in the building before 8:30 a.m. unless enrolled in Educare. All Pre-K students must be signed in and out each day by an adult! This is mandated by the state. Pre-k students will be considered tardy after 8:45 a.m. If you arrive at school after 8:45 a.m. you must walk your child into the front office (all other doors will be locked). The office will give you a tardy slip. You will then need to walk your child to the room or breakfast to sign out Pre-K sign in book.
· Breakfast is served between 8:30-9:00 a.m. If you arrive after 8:45 a.m. breakfast will not be served.
· After the 8:45 your child will be considered tardy. Parents must pick-up an admit slip from the office after 8:45 a.m.
· Morning Educare is available from 7:00-8:30 a.m.
· Afternoon Educare is available for Pre-K from 2:00 a.m-6:00 p.m.

Dismissal- Your child will be dismissed at 2:00!
Parents your child will arrive and dismiss from the same location. You will have to sign your child out each day. This is for your child’s safety.
· Students may be considered for removal after five (5) late pick-ups.
· For your child’s safety, please have your child sit in the back seat in a required booster seat~ It is the Law!
· Who can pick up your child?
1st Call the school if you have a change in pick up.
Have that person who is picking up child report to the office and show a photo I.D.
Early Dismissal
On ½ days, pre-k will dismiss at 11:00. Please do your best to be on time for this dismissal for it can be hectic.
Breakfast/Lunch/Snack
Breakfast- is served daily in the cafeteria for a minimal fee of $____ or reduced $____.
Lunch- The cost of lunch is $____ or reduced $ _____. “Just Milk” is $ ___. Lunch may be paid in advance.
You make take the money yourself to the cashier in the cafeteria.
You may clip an envelope with your child’s name and the amount enclosed on your child’s clipboard.
Packed Lunches- need to be non-refrigerated and ready to eat foods.
· No soft drinks or canned sodas
· Students can purchase a milk to go with their packed lunches. The cost is listed on the school menu.
No Restaurant food is allowed inside the Cafeteria. If you would like to bring in these items there is a special area for you to eat with your child.
Snack-is an important part of our day. During this time we learn social skills and independence. Healthy snacks are preferred (A list of healthy snacks are located near the back of the packet).
· Each month I will send home a calendar with your child’s snack day listed.
· Please send enough snack and drinks on that day for 20 students.
Dress Code
Outdoor play is am important part of our program. Please dress your child suitably to play outside (See Cherokee Elementary Handbook for school dress code and additional information).
· Shoes with wheels are not allowed at school.
· We are active learners. This means that we get dirty!
Some times children at this age have accidents. Please send a change of clothes, underwear, and socks for your child. Place items inside a Ziploc with your child’s name written on it.

There are NO material fees in our pre-kindergarten programs. However, there will be times we ask for donations such as…
Rules
Please leave all toys at home. We have many games and stimulating materials. When they bring toys and gadgets to school they can become misplaces and often abused. We do not want to have disappointments and tears.

- Please list any individual(s) that has permission to pick-up your child on the emergency card and Pre-K form (located in the back of handbook).
- Emergency’s happen. If you need someone not listed on the emergency card and/or the Pre-K Pick up form please take the following steps to help keep your child safe.
